We slept in a bit--it’s our final day (after two straight days of excursions) and the ship is at sea. The sisters hung out on the balcony and I headed to the buffet. We met up a bit later, and I shot some room video (coming soon).
Main serving area
Omelette station (they used beepers when your omelette was done)
Many side stations
I wanted to try a massage, and they had a complimentary “teaser”. I sat on a bench and got a 5 min run at the neck and shoulders. The actual massage cost is about twice as much as what it would be at home--plus the massause was really grinding into my back--so I skipped that.
Off to the “Captain’s Corner”--a Q&A with the senior staff. The majority are from what used to be the Soviet Union--I kept hearing “moose and squirrel”. BTW--total passengers and crew runs about 3200. Some of the questions were coming from the cruise equivalent of Comic Book Guy.
Off to lunch, back at the Windjammer. Then I took some time to shoot a video tour of the ship--the open decks were quite windy, so we'll see how it turns out (coming soon). Time for a nap! The sisters finished their shopping.
We stopped at the Balleros Bar (which reminded me of the Acapulco Lounge on the Love Boat (hey, there’s Charo!) for some drinks…
Isaac, how can I get Audrey Landers to fall in love with me?
and then our final dinner in the My Fair Lady room. Minestrone, caesar salad, arancini, polenta fries, lasagne (Mindy called it “beef forward”), mushroom polenta, and strip steak. Desserts: lemon curd tartlet and coffee pot de creme.
Overall, the food was very good, but not quite excellent. Maybe a better balance of form over taste. The service, however, was extraordinary.
The sisters have been obsessed with a large table of guys seated next to us each night, trying to figure out their deal. Amy has a whole theory about a wedding and college buds. Kathy couldn't stand it anymore and had to go over and ask—it is a bachelor party, and includes various brothers and cousins.
A walk around the deck was followed by a dancing game show in the Spotlight Lounge. It wasn't well planned out, and quickly turned into a drunk melee. We left before we had to give a police report. For whatever reason, we went back in for karaoke. It oscillated between country music and incredibly inappropriate rap, some sang by kids. Mindy and I snuck out to finish packing while Kathy and Amy stayed for awhile.
Tomorrow--disembarking and a State Fair.
